Ice Age (2002)

This is where it all began. Chris Wedge directed it, and Blue Sky Studios and 20th Century Fox Animation produced it. "Ice Age" introduces us to the iconic trio: Manny the mammoth (Ray Romano), Sid the lovable sloth (John Leguizamo), and Diego the saber-toothed tiger (Denis Leary). This classic film is known for its slapstick humor and heartwarming story, setting the stage for themes of friendship, family, and survival in a world that's always changing. And, of course, there's Scrat. Always Scrat.

Ice Age: The Meltdown (2006)

The ice caps are melting, glaciers are breaking apart, and our heroes must embark on another adventure. Carlos Saldanha's Ice Age: The Meltdown builds on the herd's bond and introduces Ellie (Queen Latifah), a mammoth who thinks she's a possum. Along with her brothers Crash (Seann William Scott) and Eddie (Josh Peck), she brings new energy to the group. This sequel is faster and funnier, and it shows that the Ice Age franchise isn't just a bunch of reruns. Dawn of the Dinosaurs (2009) Prehistoric animals discovering dinosaurs? It sounds strange, but "Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs" makes it work brilliantly. When Sid adopts a nest of dinosaur eggs, the group finds themselves in a hidden underground world full of T-Rexes and dangerous plants. Then, we meet Buck Wild (Simon Pegg), the eccentric weasel with the eye patch. His introduction is a total game-changer for the Ice Age universe, setting the stage for all new, adventurous storylines.

Ice Age: A Mammoth Christmas Special (2011)

It's time for a short but delightful pit stop. In the 25-minute "Ice Age: A Mammoth Christmas Special," Manny, Ellie, Peaches, and the rest prepare for a prehistoric Christmas party. It's a festive addition that fits perfectly into your marathon, offering a breather with holiday vibes. Plus, it shows how the herd becomes a real family, complete with all the chaos and love that comes with it.

Ice Age: Continental Drift (2012)

The continents are moving, no joke. "Ice Age: Continental Drift" takes us to new lands with new enemies, including a pirate crew led by Captain Gutt (Peter Dinklage). As Manny gets separated from his family, he has to brave the ocean with Diego, Sid, and Granny (Wanda Sykes). This film also introduces Shira (Jennifer Lopez), a white saber-toothed tiger who tests Diego's heart. There's more action, more humor, and a surprisingly strong message about loyalty and growth within the herd.

Ice Age: The Great Egg-Scapade (2016)

For those who thought Ice Age films only came in feature length, think again. "The Great Egg-Scapade" is a 25-minute Easter special where Sid accidentally loses the eggs of an entire herd. What follows is a wild ride full of slapstick and colorful characters. It's light, fast, and a fun break between the larger films. It's perfect as a short pause during your marathon.

Ice Age: Collision Course (2016)

And then it went into space. Literally. In "Ice Age: Collision Course," Scrat's never-ending quest for his acorn triggers a chain reaction that sends a cosmic threat hurtling towards Earth. Meanwhile, Manny deals with Peaches and Julian's marriage, and the rest of the herd has to work together to prevent a possible extinction. It's over-the-top, colorful, and maybe the most absurd but secretly entertaining Ice Age film to date. And yes, Buck Wild is back. Cheers to chaos!

The Ice Age Adventures of Buck Wild (2022)

A spin-off entirely focused on Buck? We're all for it. If you're into Disney+, you'll want to check out "The Ice Age Adventures of Buck Wild." It's about Buck, Crash, and Eddie's adventures in the dinosaur world. The film is about their efforts to stop a new threat and shows a different side of the Ice Age universe. Simon Pegg as Buck is the scene-stealer of the group, and even though the style is a bit different from the earlier films, it's a must-watch for the completists among us.

Ice Age: Boiling Point (TBD)

While there aren't many details about "Ice Age: Boiling Point," this title has been on fans' radar since rumors surfaced about a new production under Disney's wing. It's likely that the story will continue where "Buck Wild" left off or follow a new generation of herd members. If you're looking to follow the whole Ice Age timeline, be sure to save a spot for this film in your next marathon.

Ice Age: Scrat Tales (2022)

We wrap things up with the most iconic squirrel in film history. "Scrat Tales," a collection of short animated films on Disney+, is all about Scrat and his never-ending battle with that darn acorn. These shorts are hilarious, creative, and sometimes surprisingly emotional. They offer the perfect way to unwind at the end of your marathon and finally give Scrat the spotlight he deserves. Will he ever truly get his acorn? You'll have to watch to find out.

How to Tackle This Ice Age Universe Marathon Best

Plan your marathon wisely: start on a Friday evening with the first two films, enjoy the specials as light snacks, and spread it out over a weekend or long evening with friends (or solo, we don't judge). Make sure you have plenty of snacks, including something with nuts, since the Scrat vibes are in the air. Also, be sure to have Disney+ ready to go. If you really want to go all-in, dress up as your favorite character. Or maybe just a woolly mammoth blanket and your comfy socks. If you're looking for the ultimate Ice Age binge experience, just remember one thing: as long as you follow the herd, you're good. From the formation of the group to intergalactic disasters and everything in between, this marathon showcases how the Ice Age franchise has evolved into one of the most well-known animated series ever. So, are you ready to travel back to prehistory? The Ice Age universe is waiting for you!
