Back to the Future universe in order
Picture this: You're right there in the moment before Marty McFly ever jumped into his time-traveling adventures. This version of 1985 is the baseline: Hill Valley, as it should be, free from dystopian casinos and tangled timelines. In this movie, we see what Marty's like at home, his relationship with his girlfriend, Jennifer Parker (played by Claudia Wells and later by Elisabeth Shue), his skateboarding skills, and of course, his dog, Einstein. It's where it all started, and the moment Doc Brown first unveiled the DeLorean. And don't forget Mr. Strickland, he's always on the lookout for folks not pulling their weight. This part of the timeline is a perfect fit for the animated sequel.

Back to the Future - Seasons 1-2 TvShow 575 min. 1992An animated series for television based on the Back to the Future trilogy of feature films. Based on the highly successful Back to the Future movie trilogy, this series is set, um, "after" the events of the last film, as the adventures of Marty McFly and Doc Brown in their DeLorean time machine continue. Joining the ride is Clara, (Doc's wife from Back To The Future Part III,) Jules and Verne (their sons) Einstein the dog and Jennifer (Marty's girlfriend). And apparently there's a Tannen in every time as relatives of Biff keep popping up, and creating conflict. Mary Steenburgen and Tom Wilson reprise their roles from the movies. During live portions of the show, Christopher Lloyd reprised his role as Doc Brown and was joined by Bill Nye, who conducted experiments that were used in the show.USER SCORE 8.7
Back to the Future Animated Series
After the movies, we're going to look at the Back to the Future animated series, which was produced by Amblin Entertainment and Universal Pictures. This series is about the adventures of Doc Brown, his wife Clara, their sons Jules and Verne, and of course, a talking Einstein. It's got a lighter tone, but it's still got a lot of sci-fi elements. You'll see time travel to the age of dinosaurs, futuristic worlds, and alternate realities. If you thought time paradoxes were only in the movies, you haven't seen this series yet. Each episode feels like a mini-adventure in the larger Back to the Future universe, perfect for indulging both your inner child and your inner nerd.
Why This Order Works
This marathon through the Back to the Future universe, in this order, offers a chronological journey through Hill Valley's space-time continuum. It starts in the earliest period (1885 Old West), then goes through some key time jumps like 1955 and 1985, and ends with the futuristic chaos of 2015 and the light-hearted adventures of the animated series. It's the only way all the character arcs, running jokes, and timeline changes make sense. Plus, it'll help you really appreciate all the references, callbacks, and paradoxes. Trust us, there are plenty.
Extra Tips for Your Marathon
Plan your snack breaks wisely. Part 2 is the most intense, with time jumps, so be sure to grab some extra popcorn. Part 3 is perfect for a thematic break: put on your cowboy hat and enjoy some chili. When watching the animated series, think of it as a sweet treat to end your meal on. It's not required, but it's the icing on the cake. Hey, just a friendly reminder to pay close attention to the little details in Parts 1 and 2. You know, like the Twin Pines Mall (or was it Lone Pine?), that café that keeps popping up, and that guy with the newspaper... Trust us, it's totally worth it.Ready to time travel?
Whether you're a die-hard fan of Michael J. Fox as Marty McFly or just curious about why everyone still talks about the clock tower lightning strike, this marathon is a must for any film enthusiast. The Back to the Future franchise isn't just a story about time travel. It's a retro-futuristic, sci-fi adventure comedy with a lot of charm, pace, and surprisingly deep insights. Gather your friends, start with the first film (in 1885, of course), and let the time-traveling adventure begin. Great Scott...this is going to be a binge to remember!
